As a North American when you think of
carnival you probably think of a fair, circus or amusement show. Others may think of women and men dancing on
each other with little to nothing on, reggae music, and colorful costumes. However,
it is so much more behind the meaning of carnival. The rich history of
carnival, the meaning of the costumes worn, the actual celebration, and
indulgence of island foods such as; jerk chicken, curry chicken & goat,
plantain and array of spices. Carnival is celebrated in almost every Caribbean
island but the best one is in Trinidad and Tobago. Trinidad is known as the carnival capital of
the Caribbean, or โthe mother of all West Indian carnivals. Its vibrant colors,
unique costumes, masquerading, immaculate food, and music has evolved into a
celebration that now reaches many parts of the world.
